The floor isn’t always the one that will work & you can do tummy time on your body just as well. I’d hold your judgment on a baby bouncer or any other baby containers until your baby is earth side. Not sure which baby bouncer to choose Read the Baby Bouncer guide to find the right bouncer for you, your baby, and your lifestyle. Our bouncers are suitable for newborns (at least 8 lbs/3.5 kg) and can be used up to the age of 2. In reality, you do what works in that moment if you’re about to lose it & are touched out. Your baby can sit safely and comfortably in the bouncer while you have your hands free for a while. Ideally, you aim to do what is recommended. There’s a lot of “should ideally do” & “here’s what we actually did because baby wouldn’t tolerate anything else” going on when you’re raising kids. Sometimes you do things that aren’t ideal, because you need to survive first. Just somewhere safe, where if they’re rolling, they won’t go everywhere while you’re not looking. You want somewhere safe to place baby, be that a bouncer, pack n play, swing, floor play-mat, etc. Kid 3 had bad reflux, so being slightly upright helped. It also helped with reflux, pooping, & just staying entertained. If you have no help, this is what worked for us. It’s all me in the evenings, my husband works nights. Or kid 1 needed a bath while kid 2 yelled at me. This was all supervised, but kid 1 & 2 still had to have a bath while kid 3 screeched that he couldn’t see me. When I had more than 1 kid, I’d prop baby up slightly on a boppy nursing pillow in the hallway outside the bathroom or put them in a bouncer. Sometimes I held them for naps, while trying to keep them napping in the pack n play. Other times we popped them in the play mat & walked away, not using the bouncer at all. Babies don’t follow science recommendations, so sometimes we used it for more than 2 hours. 2 kids were prone to falling asleep in it & it shut 1 kid up when she was angry I put her down so I could do something. Sometimes the bouncer was the only way my kids would take a nap. Like she would be ok for 5 mins and then scream her head off when she was still a newborn lol. I am a lot less worried for my girl now that she’s more developed (6 months soon, yay!) … oh and also, my baby haaated her bouncer until she was about 3 months. The longest we drive with her in the car is an hour before we take her out.Īll this said though, everyone should do what makes sense for their situation and their baby. In the early days I was super paranoid about positional asphyxiation because her neck was so weak and I noticed way early on that she has torticollis (tight neck muscles on one side so she heavily favors turning left and her head tilts to the right shoulder). I’ve had baby carriers the whole time but also didn’t use them much for the same reasons… didn’t want to mess with her hips/back/neck strength development. Instead I just carry her outside for walks in my arms, bundle up and give her a hat if it’s cold/very sunny. I’m of a similar mindset to you (based on all the comments), I actually have used my stroller very little and generally prefer not to take her anywhere in the car/car seat that I don’t have to.
